Letter: Earl Persip is a true community partner

To the editor,

As a Pittsfield resident, I am casting my vote for Earl Persip on Nov. 7, and I encourage all voters to get to the polls and elect Earl to be one of Pittsfield's next at-large councilors. He will bring a distinct and thoughtful perspective to the council.

I have known Earl since his childhood and continue to be impressed with his total commitment to the community. He has spent the last 22 years serving our youth, and I am sure he has touched a generation of children who consider him to be a mentor, role model and friend. With so many children in our community searching to find their place, Earl plays a vital role in encouraging our youth to forge a path for college/career readiness and community service.

When Earl is elected, I hope more of our youth will see him as a model of someone who has chosen to remain in our community rather than relocate. As anyone who works with youth knows, a critical skill to help guide and motivate children is to be a genuine and active listener. Earl has perfected this skill. I am certain he will bring these listening skills to his work on the council.

We voters have an incredible opportunity to invite Earl to continue to serve our community through an at-large position on the City Council. The combination of Earl's passion with that of incumbents Marchetti and Mazzeo will preserve and enhance a cohesive and effective council. I hope that Pittsfield voters send a message that Earl's contributions are recognized and needed by voting for Persip on Nov. 7.

Linda Avalle,
