Letter: Fair photos glamorize abuse of animals

To the editor:

For a newspaper which proclaims itself to be a beacon of worthy local information, The Berkshire Eagle has once again failed dismally. ("Community interacts with wealth of animals at annual Adams Agricultural Fair," August 5).

The horse has been a boon to mankind for centuries where brute strength was required, and no newspaper worthy of the name would publish such a photo as this, which shows two horses being physically abused for no other reason than to provide entertainment for ignorant human beings who would not recognize animal cruelty if it kicked them in the teeth.

I suggest that next year the horses are left in peace and this year's human drivers see how far they can drag 100-pound concrete slabs. That would be an event worth watching!

Ronald G. Wheeler,
