Letter: Healthy predators, healthy prey

To the editor:

Regarding Gene Chague's comments on coyote hunting (Aug. 4), if I were hunting this fall and saw "a pack of coyotes chasing a doe and her fawn," I'd stay still with a slight smirk on my face in awe and appreciation that there are healthy predators in my midst doing the same thing I am. A healthy predator population is indication of a healthy prey population. Wasting these predators for keeping the deer fast and wild seems like we're not holding up our end of the deal with nature. Again.

Further, my license fees pay for MassWildlife, and I want MassWildlife making decisions based on science, not on the sole interests of those funding the science.

Jeff Lacatell,
