Letter: More information needed from BMC

To the editor:

On behalf of my wife and myself, this note is to thank Eagle staff and management for its careful and informative coverage of the coronavirus epidemic in recent days and weeks. It is a necessary complement to the flow of news and comment available on TV, radio and the internet.

At the same time, Sunday's word of staff re-shuffling at NARH and BMC strongly suggests that it is time for a full report from Berkshire Health Systems on the current status of planning and preparedness for the inevitable spike in cases of Covid-19 infection in the county and region. An open letter in these pages might well be the way to go — for a start.

The point is, after the wealth of misdirection and confusion emanating recently from the White House, this is no time for surprises. We need accurate and supportive information from our most important local source of health care. Questions abound, including: Is space available at NARH or elsewhere to avoid overcrowding at BMC? What about the continuing health and financial welfare of that amazing group of nurses and other staff?

In the interest of full disclosure, I should add, all the above comes from an over-qualified member of a so-called target population affected by the pandemic.

Marc Jaffe,
