Letter: Museum parts with its history, and our own

To the editor:

Well, at last we are shown the legal rulings from Boston on the sale of the core paintings at the Berkshire Museum. Money will be raised and paintings will be disbursed widely. Seems like a lost opportunity to shine a light on a deep, focused county collection.

The scope and decades of donated and purchased artwork with strong attachment to the area will become a memory. Isn't keeping history part of what museums do? At least some of the major works will be kept in the area and benefit some. The intentions of the artists are broken. Sad.
