Letter: Old movie marquees should be converted to meeting places

To the editor:

As a current resident of Pittsfield and a former resident of North Adams, I've noticed that something the two towns have in common are the unused marquees denoting two former popular theaters. It is my personal opinion that the marquees in both towns should be redone, as they are both eyesores for their respective towns, and turned into lively theaters once again.

Pittsfield, I feel, needs a dance hall where people can congregate underneath the marquees, and North Adams could use a similar theater space. The marquees are each very beautiful. Why aren't they being redone and put to use? These signs should not be eyesores — they should be an asset to their respective towns and a meeting place.

Jennifer Gorson,
