Letter: Propping a bottle wrong for babies

To the editor:

As a pediatrician (now retired), I am furious with your newspaper for running the picture that accompanied the May 16 article "US birth rate lowest in three decades." A baby should never have a propped bottle for feedings. A baby should be held both for the baby's safety and the baby's feeling of well-being.

Propping can be a dangerous practice. It should not be encouraged in any way.
