Letter: Thanks to story, Yanna is more than a statistic

To the editor:

Thank you so much for your front page piece in memory of Yanna, the young woman who was shot and killed. ("Lifelong friends of Asiyanna Jones: 'There will literally never be another Yanna. Ever,'" Eagle, Oct. 13).

Until your lovely piece, she was only another statistic of the ongoing insanity of gun violence. You led me to know her as a person. I would have loved having her as a neighbor or a workmate. It's pieces like this where victims become real and tangible that offer hope of moving the majority of us to put an end to this unspeakable horror of America's love of guns.

God rest Yanna's soul — and America's.
