Letter: Tyer's compassion earns a vote

To the editor:

Etched in my memory is the compassionate and open-hearted exchange between Mayor Linda Tyer and a West Side family impacted by recent violence at a community gathering.

She gave a voice to those who are not often heard and continues to do so. You can stop by her office unannounced and be greeted by staff with grace and dignity. As a current member of the Human Rights Commission and past board member of the Christian Center and Habitat for Humanity, a veteran and retired educator, my membership in this community is secure, safe and energized in these challenging times!

Robert Sykes,
