Letter: Walking the halls in Lee schools

To the editor:

We commend the Lee Public Schools for encouraging its school age residents to walk to school on National Walk to School Day. Lee is now primed to take the next step (pun intended) and encourage all its residents to walk.

The hall walking activity established cooperatively between the Lenox Public Schools and Berkshire SuperGenarians fits this bill. Lenox residents are invited to walk the school corridors after school hours on days when school is in session. School Superintendent Kim Merrick and the school principals have set a few simple requests to go along with the invitation.

Hall walking is an easy to implement, convenient and free way for Berkshirites to exercise when outdoor conditions encourage "couch-potatoitis." This intergenerational activity encourages exercise and socializing — what's not to love? We hope Lee and all Berkshire towns consider establishing this activity.
