Lily Watkins observed her 104th birthday at a celebration held Saturday, April 6, at Craneville Place in Dalton. Born April 4, 1915, she was a lifelong resident of Hinsdale until moving to Craneville Place two years ago.

Twenty-one family members attended the party which included cake and a performance by an Elvis impersonator who presented Watkins with a rose.

Watkins, the former Lily Martin, married Franklin Watkins on April 23, 1935. The couple enjoyed traveling and went dancing every Saturday night with friends. Franklin died in October 1980. They had one daughter, Marion, who died in 2014. Watkins currently has three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Another grandson died in 1983.

Watkins enjoys playing bingo and cards, her daily crossword puzzles, and reading the newspapers. She also enjoys telling stories of her past, including those of the Depression, war, her childhood, and happy times with her husband.

As the oldest person in Hinsdale, she has held the Boston Post Cane since 2015. Her father-in-law, the late Monroe Watkins, also held the Boston Post Cane from 1974 until his death in 1982 at the age of 96.
