GREAT BARRINGTON — A Pittsfield man was helped down Monument Mountain by rescue crews Wednesday morning after police received a call that someone was in emotional distress at the top of the mountain.

Town Fire Chief Charles Burger said that seven firefighters were dispatched to Squaw Peak at around 7 a.m. Town police also helped escort the man to safety, said Police Chief William Walsh.

Burger could not release any information about the incident, other than the man "came down with us on his own" and was transported by ambulance to Berkshire Medical Center.
