Mass. DPH virus update: Another Berkshire death after none for 17 days; county cases rise by one

Berkshire County had another coronavirus death announced by the state on Friday, after 17 days of no new fatalities.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which issues the COVID-19 statistics daily, also reported 510 cases in the Berkshires on Friday, up one case from the day before.

Statewide, 80 new deaths were reported by the state, for a total now of 6,228. The coronavirus case count rose by 805 to 90,889. 

As of Friday, 2,323 people with the disease in Massachusetts were being cared for in a hospital, 628 of them in an intensive care unit.

There have been 94,150 deaths in the U.S. and 1,571,617 cases of COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
