Mass. DPH virus update: Five new cases in the Berkshires

There were five new cases of COVID-19 in the Berkshires, according to data released by the state Friday.

The number of county people killed by the disease stands at 40, the same as the day before; there are 544 cases countywide, up five from the day prior.

The state Department of Public Health reported 78 new deaths across Massachusetts, for a total of 6,718. There were 617 new confirmed cases, for a statewide total of 95,512.

Across the U.S., 101,711 people have lost their lives to COVID-19, and there's been 1,719,827 sickened, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
