Mass. DPH virus update: No COVID-19 deaths for 17th day in Berkshires; state surpasses 90K cases

Berkshire County has had no coronavirus deaths for 17 days, but the statewide case count has surpassed 90,000, state officials announced Thursday.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health, which issues the COVID-19 statistics daily, reported 509 cases in the Berkshires on Thursday.

Statewide, 82 new deaths were reported by the state, for a total now of 6,148. The coronavirus case count rose by 1,114 to 90,084. 

As of Sunday, 2,396 people with the disease in Massachusetts were being cared for in a hospital, 647 of them in an intensive care unit.

There have been 93,061 deaths in the U.S. and 1,551,095 cases of COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
