Mass. DPH virus update: One dead, two sickened by COVID-19 in Berkshires; state cases approach 100,000, as do nationwide deaths

Another person died and two more were sickened in Berkshire County from COVID-19, according to data released by the state Wednesday.

The number of county people killed by the disease is now 40; the county cases of the coronavirus are at 539, up two from the day prior.

The state Department of Public Health reported 74 new deaths across Massachusetts, for a total of 6,547. There were 527 new confirmed cases, for a statewide total of 94,220.

Across the U.S., 99,031 people have lost their lives to COVID-19, and there's been 1,678,843 sickened, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
