LENOX — Local merchants are planning the town's inaugural Columbus Day weekend event, according to the Chamber of Commerce.

Building off a successful summer season for business and art gallery owners, the "Lenox Side Walk Sale" is slated for this weekend, organized by Doris Barsauskas of MacKimmie Co. and Tony Chojnowski, owner of Casablanca, the clothing store that relocated to a new building on Church Street in June.

The goal is to sell off-price merchandise to customers in Lenox and surrounding communities, as well as second-home owners while starting to create interest in holiday shopping, said Jennifer Nacht, director of the chamber.

All Church Street merchants and others in town are planning to participate, she added.
