One wounded in Pittsfield shooting, officials say

PITTSFIELD — One person was shot early Sunday in an incident on Columbus Avenue, authorities said.

Gunfire was reported about 3:22 a.m. in the area of 347 Columbus Ave. where responding city police officers found the victim injured inside a vehicle, according to Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington.

The victim was treated and transported to Berkshire Medical Center, but the name and condition of the victim wasn't yet made public by Sunday evening.

"Our thoughts are with the victim right now and we are respecting the family's privacy," Harrington said in a written statement late Sunday afternoon.

Police investigators remained on the scene until 2:30 p.m. Sunday, gathering evidence in the area of Columbus Avenue and South John Street, according to the DA's office. Evidence markers dotted the roadway next to a silver sedan with its driver-side door open and at least one window shattered.

The DA's office said the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, and city and state police investigators do not have any ongoing safety concerns for the public at large.

Mayor Linda Tyer said residents need not fear for their safety as authorities continue their investigation into what she called a "tragic event."

"I want to underscore that this is an active investigation that has the full attention and resources of the city and our multiple partners in law enforcement. They are working vigorously to apprehend the perpetrators so justice can be served and order can be restored in the neighborhood," Tyer said.

Pittsfield Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705. Anonymous tips can be made by texting PITTIP and the message to 847411 (TIP411).

Sunday's shooting was the fifth in roughly a month's time, and the second involving known injuries.

Ryan Aulisio of Pittsfield was arrested July 31, charged with shooting another man on July 22 near Zen's Pub on Tyler Street; the victim suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Three weeks later, around midnight on Aug. 10, one man was injured in a fight at Zen's Pub. Police said the disturbance was immediately followed by two separate shooting incidents, including one near Zen's, but it was unclear if the fight and gunfire were related.

Most recently, Zyir T. Rasheed, 19, and Tajaye A. Davis, 24, were arrested and charged in connection with a single shot fired on John Street on Thursday. Police report no injuries or property damage from that incident.
