People: Hayek wants to protect Mexico's image
Hayek wants to protect Mexico's image
Salma Hayek says she refrains from using social media to comment on problems in her native Mexico because she wants to protect the country's image.
During an appearance Tuesday to promote her Netflix series "Monarca" on a family's tequila empire, the actress was asked why she doesn't use her social media presence to draw more attention to Mexico's ills.
Hayek said she doesn't believe a post on her Instagram account can change things because most of her followers don't live in Mexico.
At the same time, she added, a critical post puts negative attention on Mexico elsewhere in the world, and "that can affect us with tourism, with people who are trying to invest in Mexico." She said she doesn't want to hurt her country.
Swift suspect charged in Trump golf course damage
The man charged with breaking into singer Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion is accused of causing more than $20,000 damage to President Donald Trump's New Jersey golf course.
The Somerset County prosecutor says an employee at Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster observed a spinning vehicle "doing donuts" on the 11th hole on Sept. 3. A vehicle was spotted again on Sept. 8 making circular patterns on the 13th hole.
A partial license plate number led police Tuesday to charge 26-year-old Richard McEwan of Milford with criminal mischief.
McEwan was not wearing shoes when he was arrested in Swift's beachfront mansion last month.
Police said he told them he was taught to take his shoes off when entering someone's home to be polite.
A phone number listed for him has been disconnected.
Producer imprisoned for wife's death released
A former reality TV show producer convicted of killing his wife is back home in Southern California after his release from a Mexican prison.
KTLA-TV says former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman was released about two months ago. The station says the 48-year-old had no comment when interviewed Monday at his home in Gardena, where he is living with his mother and two children.
He served 7 years of a 12-year sentence.
Beresford-Redman was convicted of beating and strangling his wife, 42-year-old Monica Beresford-Redman, in 2010. Her body was found naked in a sewer cistern at a Cancun-area resort where the family was vacationing.
Beresford-Redman maintained his innocence.
His former attorney, Jaime Cancino, tells KNBC-TV that prisoners in Mexico are eligible for release after serving 60% of their sentence.
