Pittsfield: Berkshire Lyric slates Christmas concerts

PITTSFIELD — Berkshire Lyric will present two distinct Christmas concerts featuring the 75 voice Berkshire Lyric Chorus and the 40 voice Blafield Children's Chorus.

The choruses will sing "This Wondrous Night" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 400 West St., Pittsfield.

This concert will feature music of Bach and Mendelssohn, as well as original carols and arrangements. The featured soloist is Metropolitan Opera mezzo and Berkshire resident Marjorie Dix.

This concert is being recorded for broadcast on WMHT-FM 89.1.

Tickets are $20 for adults, with accompanied children admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance through BerkshireLyric.org.

The choruses will be joined by Lyric's elite high school women's ensemble, Melodious Accord, for "A Family Christmas" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at First Congregational Church, 4 Main St., Stockbridge.

This concert features holiday classics such as "Sleigh Ride," "Silver Bells," "Mary, Did You Know?" and "The Christmas Song."

The featured soloists are tenor Steve Hassmer and bass John Demler.

This concert may sell out; tickets may be purchased in advance from chorus members or through the Berkshire Lyric website.

Both concerts are led by Lyric's Artistic Director Jack Brown and accompanied by Joe Rose.

Proceeds help to fund the annual Spring Masterworks Concert at Tanglewood's Seiji Ozawa Hall.
