CHESHIRE — After being held out of the 200-meter sprint in the Berkshire County Invitational last week, Pittsfield's Emmanuel Nda was ready and raring to go in his team's Berkshire League opening meets against Hoosac Valley and Drury.

When the gun sounded for the start of the final heat in the 200, Nda looked like a cannonball fired at high velocity, as he kicked it into overdrive to to win in 23.42 seconds, helping him round out a sprint sweep (11.25 in the 100, and running a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay team) and in the process helping his Generals roll to a pair of dual meet wins on the track at Hoosac Valley.

Nda's trifecta helped the Generals to 108-33 win over Hoosac, and a 129-12 win over Drury on a sunny, warm afternoon.

"This was my first 200 of the year," Nda said, "and it felt pretty good. Not a lot of people in the race, but it felt pretty good. Legs were out there, kept my stride."

The Generals were on top in all of the running events, and took first place overall in three field events to help round out the sweep. Hoosac Valley, meanwhile, recorded a 94-36 win over rival Drury.

On the girls' side, PHS recorded another sweep — beating Hoosac Valley 81.5-59.5, and Drury 114.5-22.5 — while the Hoosac girls also pulled one over on their neighborly rivals, winning 103-24.

Nda was joined in multi-event wins on the boys side by teammate David Kankam, who won the 400 (53.31) and the high jump (5-10). Hoosac's Nick Alibozek also picked up a pair, taking first in the long jump (17 feet, 8 1/4 inches) and triple jump (35-9 1/2).

It was the sprints, though, that set Pittsfield apart in the team scores. Nda was followed by Sam Higuera and Nasim Purry, in order, in the 100, while in the 200 Purry and Higuera swapped spots. The three made up a trio of legs in the 4x100 relay, along with Kankam.

"Honestly, it's really great," Nda said of having so many fast runners on his team. "It's always competition, and we are always racing in practice. It feels even better to win at a real meet."

For the girls, Pittsfield's Cami Diehl took first in the 800 (2:43.25) and the mile (6:04.18), while Sarah Aitken won both the long jump (13-11 3/4) and triple (31-4), while Meridith McCandless won a track event (400, 1:08.57) and a field event (discus, 68-10) to claim a pair of wins. Shaleigh Levesque took first in the 100 hurdles (18.04) and 400 hurdles (1:11.62) for Hoosac Valley.

"I feel pretty good, I'm happy with what I did," said Diehl. "I think I started off pretty fast [in the 800], which was good, then just kept that pace.

Levesque, meanwhile, competed in both hurdles events because her coach told her to.

"I did it last year for the heptathlon, and my coach said I'd be good at it, you should do it," Levesque said. "So I was like 'okay,' and I like it better, because even though you are still running the same distance, it doesn't feel like it."

Pittsfield's Patrick Silva recorded a narrow win over teammate Emanuel Brown in the 800, winning in 2:27.82 to Brown's 2:28.05. When Silva crossed the line, he threw both of his arms up in celebration after turning up the heat down the final straightaway to overtake his teammate.

Pittsfield high jumper Abby Kittler won the high jump by beating teammate Mya Manson over the bar at 4-4 first. In the boys shot put, Hoosac teammates Nolan Roberts and Dominic Acquista tied for first with matching throws of 41-7.

While the Drury teams were on the tail-end of some lopsided team scores, Laura Thomas took first overall in the javelin with a throw of 100-2, nearly five feet better than Levesque in second. Caleb Besaw also recorded a first-place finish in the dual against Hoosac, taking second overall in the mile (5:37.27) with teammate Braedon Delmolino in third overall, and second in the dual matchup. Quinn O'Connor also recorded a first in the Drury-Hoosac dual, finishing second overall in the 110 hurdles in 20.33 to sandwich himself between Pittsfield's Kevin D'Aniello (18.65) and John Donahue (20.82) in the overall results.
