PITTSFIELD — A home on the shore of Pontoosuc Lake received significant damage by a fire Thursday afternoon.

Smoke could be seen pouring from the second story and attic of the home moments later. Firefighters had ladders extended against two sides of the home, which was just feet from the shore.

"I've already called the insurance company," Casey said while standing outside with a group of neighbors and family members. "Deal with the adjusters, and take it from there. It's not pleasant, but worse things could happen. Nobody was hurt."

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it was possibly electrical, according to Pittsfield Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski.

The home sustained heavy damage to the second floor bedroom and attic areas, along with smoke and water damage, he said.

The fire may have started on the home's second floor, he added.
