Pittsfield Suns eliminated from Future League playoffs

BRISTOL, Conn. — Bristol Blues starting pitcher Michael Genaro kept the Pittsfield Suns offense at bay, throwing 6 and 2/3 innings of scoreless ball, leading the Blues to a 4-0 victory in the wild-card round of the Futures League Playoffs on Monday at Muzzy Field.

The loss ends the Suns' season.

The Suns managed just fours hits off Genaro. Justin Rouse closed the door, pitching 2 and 1/3 shutout innings.

Former Taconic Brave Izaiya Mestre got the start for Pittsfield. He allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three. The four runs are the most Mestre's allowed in an outing all summer, and all four runs came in the fifth inning.

Peyton Stephens started the inning with a single and moved to second on an error. A ground out moved Stephens to third before he came home on a wild pitch. Mestre surrendered back-to-back walks, and Alex Loparco plated two with a double. Dylan Reynolds brought home Loparco for the final run.

Dylan Faircloth tallied two of Pittsfield's four hits.
