PITTSFIELD — A city woman arrested as part of a January 2016 drug raid on Fenn Street was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty Thursday to drug distribution and conspiracy charges.

Amber L. Bassett, 22, was originally indicted on five additional weapons-related charges in connection with the same case, but those were all dismissed by the state.

Investigators executed a search warrant on her apartment about 11:30 p.m. Jan. 5, and recovered about 7.1 grams of crack cocaine, worth between $946 and $1,775, about $2,000 cash, two bags of heroin, eight cellphones, a digital scale, and other dealer paraphernalia.

She and and another man at the apartment, Richard Smith, were placed into custody.

A plastic bag containing crack cocaine was found under Bassett's leg while she was on the ground, handcuffed, according to Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Gregory Barry.

She pleaded guilty in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday to one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and one count of conspiracy to violate drug laws, to wit: possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

Judge John Agostini sentenced her to one year on probation, during which time she must avoid illegal drugs and submit to random testing.

The sentence is the result of an agreed-upon recommendation by Barry and Bassett's attorney, Joshua Hochberg.

Charges of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, illegal ownership of a firearm and possession of a stun gun were dismissed by the state.

In February, Smith pleaded guilty to charges of possession of heroin, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate drug laws and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail.

Weapons charges against him also were dropped by the state at his plea hearing.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield, North Adams and Dalton Police Departments, the Berkshire County Sheriff's Office, state troopers assigned to the District Attorney's Office and members of the Berkshire Law Enforcement Task Force.
