PITTSFIELD — Police have identified a Pittsfield man as the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a pedestrian early Sunday.

Robert Johnson, 51, is facing charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury/death accident, according to a release issued Wednesday by Pittsfield police.

He has been "fully cooperative in the investigation," the release states.

A vehicle was heading eastbound on Dalton Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when it struck a pedestrian who was sitting down in the roadway just east of Plastics Avenue, witnesses told police.

The driver, whom police have determined was Johnson, left the scene after the incident.

The pedestrian, Christopher Reynolds, 32, died of blunt force trauma, police said.
