Putting money into elevators

Posted

Monday, March 23
The Diocese of Springfield has repeatedly told the faithful that we have to stop putting money into buildings. We, the faithful, refer to these buildings as churches.

I was amused to read in the March 8 Berkshire Eagle about installation of an elevator at St. Charles Church in Pittsfield. The article stated the cost would be $350,000. To quote Pastor Peter Gregory, "These are hard steps to navigate, some of the worst in the area."

Would it not have been less expensive to have left one of the other six churches open, one that did not have 13 steep, narrow steps?
