Roundup: Darian Tovani scores 100th point to drive McCann Tech boys lacrosse to win

Posted

PALMER — Darian Tovani went over the 100 career-point mark by scoring five goals as the Hornets rolled over host Pathfinder, 15-6.

Tovani now has 102 career points, and has scored 96 goals for the Hornets.

Tovani was not the high man for McCann (6-4) on a cold and wet Monday afternoon, as Colby Ghidotti had five goals and three assists.

"It was a rain-soaked game. we controlled the game in this one, and had a lot of opportunity to get a lot of players into the game," McCann coach Paul Lange wrote in an email.

SOUTHWICK — Nothing could stop the McCann Tech softball team in its road win over Southwick — except the weather.

Meg Goyette had eight strikeouts in a rain-shortened, five-inning win over the Rams. Goyette started the scoring for the Hornets with a 2-run single in the first and finished the day 2 for 3 at the plate. Ayrian Quinones and Kalley Vanuni each added an RBI for McCann. The Hornets (9-1) will qualify for a Western Massachusetts tournament berth with a win at Pope Francis on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.

NORTH ADAMS — The Hurricanes trailed by just one at halftime, but a three-goal second half wasn't enough to mount a comeback as Westfield handed Hoosac Valley it's first loss of the season.

Brooke DiGennaro and Claudia Bresett each scored four goals for the Hurricanes (13-1) while Emily Godfrey had 14 saves in net.

"This game was a tale of two halves," Hoosac Valley coach Molly Meczywor wrote in an email. "In the first half we moved the ball well in transition, won 90 percent of draws and defended cutters. The second half, we struggled in transition and found ourselves in trouble defensively. Emily Godfrey made some terrific saves, though.

"Great team to play to help prepare us for postseason. Proud of the girls for stepping up to this challenge and being willing to learn and grow from this."

The Hurricanes welcome the Mounties to town this afternoon. Face-off is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
