Roundup: Pittsfield High Cheerleaders earn winter Western Mass. title
The Pittsfield High School cheerleaders took home a first-place finish at the Western Massachusetts championships on March 3. The Generals finished the competitions with 191 points, defeating five other teams and outscoring them all by at least 25 points. On March 10 the girls competed at Tantasqua High School for the state tournament and finished the afternoon with an eighth-place spot. The competition closed the books on a Pittsfield cheerleading team that claimed fall and winter Western Mass. Championships and a second-place finish at the fall state tournament.
Sage 12, MCLA women 10
NORTH ADAMS — The Trailblazers (0-2) dropped their second straight to start the season with a loss to the Gators (1-2).
MCLA tied the game early in the second half with goals by Kim Granito and Ciera Dowling, however, the Trailblazers were outscored 5-3 over the final 26 minutes.
Granito finished with six goals while Brianna Morris added two more on the afternoon. Shannon Prouty stopped 12 of 24 shots on net for the Trailblazers.
Sage had four players score multiple goals, including Anne Risler (4), Brittany Gage (3), Sophia Pierce (2) and Kerry McKeown (2). The duo of Marino Azab and Carly Plaisance saved 11 shots in net for the Gators.
