Roundup: Post 68 blasts Ludlow; Sheffield wins American Legion thriller

Posted

LUDLOW — Pittsfield Post 68 flexed its muscle on Sunday morning in an 11-1 road win over Ludlow.

It was a mercy-rule-shortened five-inning game. Pittsfield scored in each of the five frames, including three in the first to stake starter Danny DiMassimo a nice cushion.

DiMassimo struck out five and walked none in his five-inning complete game. He scattered three hits and the one run.

Ludlow pitching belonged solely to Post 68's Cal Messina, who was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles. Messina drove in three runs and scored three times, thoroughly dominating the Post 52 (1-12-1) staff.

There were plenty of hits to go around for Pittsfield, as Reece Gillette and Joe Traversa each had a two-run single in the game. Henry Sniezek had a pair of hits and drove in two runs as well.

Pittsfield improves to 10-1. Post 68 has today off, before a road game at Westfield on Tuesday, before returning home on Thursday.
