Roundup: Puleri slides into lead after Round 2 at Berkshire Hills Singles Championship
PITTSFIELD — Consistency was king on Day 2 of the Berkshire Hills Country Club Singles Championship.
Jeff Puleri shot a second straight 1-under par-71 and now holds a 2-stroke advantage after Day 2 of the 63rd Singles Championship. Puleri has a two-day total of 142 (2-under) and leads opening round medalist Jim Mueller by two shots.
Mueller carded a 74 and sits alone in second place at 144, while BHCC Club Champion Bob Linn is in third at 145. Lance Hope is next at 146, while Adam Brickle is at 147 after firing a 70 on Day 2.
Puleri carded five birdies against four bogeys for his 71. After a bogey at the second, he birdied the third and fourth holes. He went out in 36 after dropping shots at the seventh and ninth holes. He rebounded with birdies at the 10th, 15th and 17th to come in with 35 and take the lead.
Mueller went out in 40 before an eagle on the 15th hole jumpstarted his backside. When he birdied 18, he completed a 3-under par back-9 to shoot his 74. Linn was consistent after starting his day with back-to-back bogeys. He made all pars except for a birdie on the 14th hole and a bogey on the 16th for his 74.
