Roundup: Wahconah volleyball earns win at Taconic

PITTSFIELD — Taconic and Wahconah split the first two sets of their volleyball match on Monday night, before the Warriors took control. Wahconah won the final two sets to earn a 3-1 victory.

The set scores were 25-15, 16-25, 25-21, 25-18.

For Wahconah (2-1), Kassidy Krejmas had a match-high 13 kills to go with 10 aces. Kaylee O'Bryan was active with 17 assists, adding six aces and a block, while Jordyn Gagliardi had five kills,a three digs and an ace.

For Taconic (0-2), Tori Tynan had 10 assists, five aces, five kills and three digs, Sara Curry had 10 digs and 13 service points, while Kacie Yerrick also had 10 digs, along with five assists, an ace and a kill.

Lenox 3, Mount Anthony 0

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Lenox's perfect start continued to 3-0 Monday, when the Millionaires went to Vermont and swept Mount Anthony 3-0. The set scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-14. It marked the second consecutive year that Lenox had swept Mount Anthony in Bennington.

Lenox coach Bessena Cabe said the play of Carolina Chassi helped his team pull out the win. She had 12 digs and two aces. Her defense was, the coach said, outstanding.

"She was reading the plays well. She anticipated the ball," he said. "[Mount Anthony] was playing short balls and she was there to pick them up."

Carmyn O'Dell had three aces, five digs and a kill for Lenox, while Kristin Miller had six aces, 10 kills and three digs.

Mount Greylock 3, Mount Everett 1

SHEFFIELD — Visiting Mount Greylock dropped the first set to Mount Everett (1-1), but stormed back to take the match 21-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-20.

Lizzie Sarnacki had 16 digs, five kills, four aces and four blocks for the Eagles (1-1), while Ashley Atwood had five kills, three aces, a block and four digs. Laynie Mullen chipped in with six assists, five digs a block and a kill.

The Mounties (2-0) were led by double-digit kill nights by Lucy Shepard (13) and Takiera Darrow (10). Shepard added five digs. Alyssa Phelps had the hot hand with seven aces and six kills. Darrow added three aces.

Girls Soccer

Lenox 3, Taconic 0

PITTSFIELD — Aliza Munch broke a scoreless tie midway through the second half, and a pair of Lenox teammates combined to put host Taconic away down the stretch.

The Millionaires (3-0-0, 2-0-0 Berkshire South) scored three times after halftime to top the Braves, who got a solid performance in net from Leeyia Hoose. Ari Roberts and Solia Herndon-Schmid assisted on each others' goals over the final 15 minutes to do in Taconic (0-3-0, 0-2-0) in a divisional matchup.

Sophie Patella earned the shutout with seven saves.

Pittsfield 9, Mount Everett 1

SHEFFIELD — A goal by Madeline VonRuden in the 39th minute gave the host Eagles (0-2-0) some life, as they trailed Pittsfield 4-1.

But a goal by Emery Sime just 7:48 into the second half started the visiting Generals (1-2-0) on a 5-0 run to win going away.

Allie Schnopp had a hat trick, completing it on a goal in the 62nd minute.

"PHS is a solid team who had it going to day, and we didn't have much of an answer for them," Mount Everett coach Josh King wrote in an email. "Proud of [goalkeeper Emma Goewey] for sticking with it today and not hanging her head. It easily could have been 5-6 more goals, so she played phenomenal."

Goewey had 15 saves for the Eagles.

The score was tied 1-1 at halftime. Sarah Fortini recorded two assists for McCann.

Local colleges

Ephs' Laino gets NESCAC honor

HADLEY — Williams College women's soccer player Victoria Laino is the NESCAC player of the week.

The junior midfielder from Charlotte, Vt., scored two goals — including the game-winning tally — in a season-opening 4-2 win over Hamilton on Wednesday. On Saturday, she assisted on the game winner scored by Georgia Lord in a 2-1 win over Tufts.

Williams is the reigning NCAA Division III national champion and the current No. 1 team in the country.

MCLA's Moczulski earns volleyball award

WESTFIELD — MCLA outside hitter Kelly Moczulski is the MASCAC volleyball player and rookie of the week.

The first-year from New River, Ariz., averaged 9.67 kills, 7.34 digs and four aces for the Trailblazers, who went 3-0 last week. MCLA beat Mount Holyoke, Norwich and Dean College.

The Trailblazers are now 3-3, and will host Bay Path on Thursday night.
