Roundup: Williams men's hockey team tops Babson

WILLIAMSTOWN — The Williams men's hockey team returned from a short Thanksgiving break with a 4-1 win over Babson at Lansing Chapman Rink.

The Ephs (3-0-0) scored three goals in the second period to take command.

David Italiano put Williams up just under three minutes into the period on a pass from Myles Cunningham and Roberto Cellini. C.J. Shugart doubled the lead, with Cunningham and Joe Welch getting the assists, before Colby Cretella scored on a pass from Welch and Shugart.

Josh Beck pulled one back for Babson on the power play, but in the third period Shugart got his second of the game on a pass from Cellini and Italiano to seal it.

Babson outshot Williams 30-26, but Michael Pinios was up to the task and stopped 29 shots for the Ephs. Matt Pompa had 22 saves for Babson.

NYU men's basketball 97, MCLA 71

NORTH ADAMS — The Trailblazers (1-3) got 24 points from Noah Yearsley, but New York University's Ethan Feldman scored 15 points and Dom Cristiano had 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Violets left the Berkshires with a win.

MCLA kept the game close in the first half, taking a slim 43-38 deficit into the break. After halftime, though, the Violets exploded for 54 points to get the win.

In addition to Feldman and Cristiano, Jimmy Martinelli chipped in 14 points and 10 boards, while Ross Udine had 10 assists.

Antoine Montgomery scored 10 points off the bench for MCLA, and Hayden Bird had four points and seven rebounds. Mike Demartinis had eight points and four boards in the loss.
