Scene: Stars come out for Williamstown Theatre Festival's Spring Gala


NEW YORK CITY — The Williamstown Theatre Festival honored one of its own during its annual Gala at TAO Downtown NYC on March 13. 

Trustee James Giddens was feted for his part in helping to develop new musicals at the festival. In addition to the accolades, Artistic Director Mandy Greenfield announced the newly established James Giddens Musical Theatre Commission and the recipients of this year’s commission, playwright Marsha Normal and composer Zoe Sarnak.

The Gala, which also functions as a fundraiser, raised a record $500,000. Auction items included: Tickets and field passes for the Super Bowl, a theatre trip to London, and a set visit on Bravo’s “Odd Mom Out."

Performers included Steven Pasquale, who sang “The Impossible Dream” and brought the crowd to their feet, “Dear Evan Hansen” star Kristolyn Lloyd, Noah Zachary, who sang from the musical “Poster Boy,” which debuted at Williamstown last summer and will play The Public Theater, and composer Justin Levine. 

Guests also included actors Jessica Hecht, Laila Robbins, Marisa Tomei, playwrights Marsha Norman, Bess Wohl, Martyna Majok, director Trip Cullman, composers Michael Friedman and Zoe Sarnak and more.

Presenters included festival veterans Justin Long, Becky Ann Baker and Dylan Baker, as well as Greenfield and Joe Finnegan, vice chairman of the WTF board of trustees,
