Tennis/lacrosse roundup: Pittsfield boys sweep Mount Greylock

PITTSFIELD — The Pittsfield boys tennis team recorded a 5-0 sweep over Mount Greylock on Monday at Herberg Middle School.

The three contested matches were in singles. Tom Rindfuss stepped in as the No. 1 player for Max Beckwith today, and recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nate Verter.

Pittsfield is now 10-1 on the year.


Singles — 1. Tom Rindfuss (P) def. Nate Verter 6-1, 6-2. 2. Max Whalen (P) def. Troy Michalak 6-1, 6-1. 3. Bryan Brophy (P) def. Altan McIntosh 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles — Pittsfield wins via forfeit.

Lee boys 3, Monument Mountain 2

GREAT BARRINGTON — Lee's Chris Petrescu defeated Noel Powell at second singles 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (13-11) to swing the match in the Wildcats' favor.

The Spartans were without No. 1 singles player Kadin Shafiroff, forcing coach Howard Arkans to shuffle his lines.

Zach Goffin moved up to No. 1 singles and got one of Monument's wins, beating Ibz Zia 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.

Lee girls 5, Monument Mountain 0

GREAT BARRINGTON — The Lee girls improve to 10-0 with a shutout win over Monument Mountain.

The Spartans singles players gave Lee a challenge, but the Wildcats managed to secure the points needed for the win. Lee's No. 1 singles player Anna Wang regrouped after dropping the first game to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 over Gabby DeFelice. Surianna Lee also found her footing at No. 3 singles, beating Olivia Jaffe 3-6, 7-6, 6-0.

Lenox boys 4, Mount Everett 1

SHEFFIELD — Lenox used a sweep in doubles to secure the win over the Eagles.

Nick Monteleone and Evan Silverstein recorded the biggest win of the day at second doubles, scoring a 6-2, 6-0 win over Matt Kane and Marc Gogel.

Everett's lone win came at second singles, where Andrew Haiss defeated Sean Coakley 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Mount Everett girls 3, Lenox 2

SHEFFIELD — The Mount Everett girls recorded a sweep in doubles action to edge out the win against the Millionaires.

Shelby Tinker and Ashley Kerzner needed three sets to defeat Carolina Chassi and Rihana Patel at first doubles, 6-1, 1-6, 7-5. In singles action, Katelynn Dawson also needed three sets to get a win for the Eagles, beating Isabelle Conlon 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Girls Lacrosse

Hoosac Valley 14, Pittsfield 9

PITTSFIELD — Claudia Bresett and Brooke DeGennaro scored five goals each as the Hurricanes improved to 9-2 on the year.

Bresett also had a pair of assists, and Alie Mendel finished with two goals and two helpers.

For Pittsfield, Sierra Murray had five goals and Ashley Rufo had a pair. Murray's goals brought her to 40 on the season, a new PHS single-season record.

LEE — The Warriors blanked the Wildcats in the first half, and their 2-0 lead at the break stood up for the win.

Bri Kasala and Jilly Cote had two goals each in the win, while Sydney Smith stopped 14 shots.

"Our defense lead by goalie Taryn Paul played quite well in the first half — holding the Wahconah offense to just two goals," Lee coach Dave Galisa wrote in an email. "You have to also give credit to the Wahconah defense as well since our offense was having a difficult time getting good shots on goal."

Kylah Rivest scored the lone tally for Lee.
