The Checkup: State provides case numbers for Berkshire County

NEW COMMUNITY CASE TOTALS RELEASED: The state Department of Public Works provided updates Wednesday on coronavirus cases by community.

Number of cases in Berkshire County: 632. Number of deaths in Berkshire County: 46.

Here are totals for area communities with five or more coronavirus cases, listing recent tests and positivity rates:

Adams: 35 total cases, 0 new cases last 14 days, 1,377 total tests, 233 tests last 14 days, none positive

Becket: 16 total cases, 0 cases last 14 days, 336 total tests, 77 tests last 14 days, none positive

Clarksburg: 8 total cases, 0 new cases last 14 days, 243 total tests, 40 tests last 14 days, none positive

Dalton: 18 total cases, 0 cases last 14 days, 1,366 total tests, 252 tests last 14 days, none positive

Egremont: 7 total cases, 0 cases last 14 days, 171 total tests, 24 tests last 14 days, none positive

Great Barrington: 75 total cases, fewer than 5 new cases last 14 days, 2,650 total tests, 419 tests last 14 days, 0.24 percent positive

Hinsdale: 5 total cases, 0 cases last 14 days, 470 total tests, 83 tests last 14 days, none positive

Lanesborough: 8 total cases, 0 positive last 14 days, 529 total tests, 96 tests last 14 days, none positive

Lee: 22 total cases, 0 cases last 14 days, 1,291 total tests, 214 tests last 14 days, none positive

Lenox: 17 total cases, 0 new cases last 14 days, 1,672 total tests, 244 tests last 14 days, none positive

Williamstown: 84 total cases, fewer than 5 cases last 14 days, 1,769 total tests, 244 tests last 14 days, 0.41 percent positive

THE NUMBERS: The state DPH said 28 new deaths were reported as of Wednesday in Massachusetts, pushing the statewide total to 8,645. Deaths including those listed as probably caused by COVID-19 is 8,76. Confirmed cases rose 262 to 115,048.

In the region, here are the case numbers and (deaths) for counties: Franklin, 375 (610); Hampshire, 1,107 (131); Hampden, 7,482 (729).

According to data provided by Johns Hopkins University, 100,486 people in Massachusetts with COVID-19 have recovered.

As of Wednesday, 24,535 cases have been confirmed among residents and staff of long-term care facilities, a one-day increase of 13. In all, 379 facilities have had at least one confirmed case and have seen 5,684 deaths linked to COVID-19, an increase of 22 over Tuesday.

BEYOND OUR BORDERS: Global cases as of Wednesday totaled 22,244,179, with 783,525 deaths and 14,168,389 instances of recovery, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins University. The U.S. has seen 5,516,639 cases, 172,667 deaths and 1,898,159 recoveries, the school said.

AT THE HOSPITALS: As of Wednesday, Berkshire Medical Center and Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington had no COVID-19 cases.

The patient count for other western Massachusetts hospitals: Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, five cases, two in ICU; Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, no cases; Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, 16 cases, one in ICU; Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, five cases, one in ICU; Holyoke Hospital, five cases, one in ICU; Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield, two cases, neither in ICU.

The numbers include both confirmed and suspected cases.

Statewide, as of Wednesday there were 365 people hospitalized, with the latest daily admission of 156 people. Of those hospitalized, 66 are in ICU and 27 are on ventilators.

To date, 100,486 people have recovered from the virus in Massachusetts, according to Johns Hopkins, and 1,476,567 people have been tested for the virus. Total tests in the U.S.: 68,705,563.
