As broadband projects advance in rural towns, residents with new fiber-optic service are enjoying some of the fastest internet connections in Berkshire County.

But what about connection speeds in other area communities that were not part of the state's push to close the digital divide, because they had access to private internet providers? Are they being left behind?

The Eagle invites residents of Berkshire County to test and report their download speeds.

Here's how to do that at no cost:

1. Visit

2. Allow the program to load.

3. Click on "GO."

4. The program will test both download and upload speeds and express them as Mbps, or megabits per second.

5. When the tests are complete, the speeds are displayed at the top of the screen.

Then use this link,, to access a form that will easily transmit your results to The Eagle. The newspaper will report on the results.
