The joints, and other products, are jumping off Berkshire retailers' shelves to mark 420
Your weekend plans might just go up in smoke.
Berkshire County retail marijuana shops are offering a variety of deals, rollouts and events to help celebrate the first 420 weekend since they opened.
"The 420 celebration has already begun," said Thomas Winstanley, marketing director at Theory Wellness, which has a shop in Great Barrington. "We're really excited to be celebrating the first legal cannabis holiday."
April 20 is celebrated by some as 420, a marijuana holiday.
Theory Wellness in Great Barrington began seeing a spike in customers Friday, with a line out the door. Winstanley said that the shop has used the weekend, from Friday to Sunday, to release new products exclusive to Theory and to host social media giveaways of gift cards. On Saturday, during store hours, there will be a food truck on the property, along with goodies from Great Barrington's Robin's Candy Shop.
Berkshire Roots in Pittsfield will be hosting two events. First, there will be a 420 market on its Dalton Avenue property, with 11 local vendors offering food, massages, produce and even information on pet adoption, according to Brittany Pufahl, the company's marketing manager.
"We've been having a nice line out there," Pufahl said about pre-420 sales. "The reason why we're doing something a little different and out of the box is that we want to break that stigma of 420. We're here for the community, and we want to uplift everyone, just like we're getting uplifted by the community."
The shop also will host a 420 after-party at the Rusty Anchor Bar on North Street from 9 to 11 p.m. Because the capacity is 180 patrons, it's a first-come, first-served event, Pufahl said.
While using marijuana products will not be permitted at any of the three sites, and recreational marijuana can't be discounted, Berkshire Roots and Theory have discounts on medical products.
Also in Pittsfield, Temescal Wellness has been offering 20% off accessories from Thursday through Sunday, according to store manager Crystalyn Adams.
