Three injured in head-on crash, rollover on West Street in Pittsfield

Posted

PITTSFIELD -- Three people were injured Thursday afternoon in a head-on crash on West Street that caused a third vehicle to roll over.

Two of the victims were treated at the scene of the crash at the intersection of Fort Hill Avenue. A third victim was transported to Berkshire Medical Center.

About 12:30 p.m., a westbound Mini Cooper and eastbound Volkswagen crashed head-on. An eastbound Jeep that was behind the Volkswagen swerved to avoid the wreck and flipped onto its roof.

Members of the Pittsfield Fire Department soaked the Jeep in foam because of leaking gasoline.

A rear axle and one of the Jeep's wheels landed on a residential lawn several yards away.

West Street was closed to through traffic on both sides while responders continued to work the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
