'Hold These Truths' returning to Barrington Stage Company

PITTSFIELD — Barrington Stage Company is bringing back its production of Jeanne Sakata's "Hold These Truths," first performed late May/early June at BSC's St. Germain Stage.

The eight-performance encore engagement begins Sept. 20 and runs through Sept. 26 with 7:30 p.m. performances Sept. 20, 21, 24, 25 and 26, and 3 p.m. performances Sept. 21, 22 and 26 at St. Germain Stage in the Sydelle and Lee Blatt Performing Arts Center, 36 Linden St.

Joel de la Fuente will reprise his Drama Desk-nominated role in this solo play inspired by the life of Gordon Hirabayashi who, during World War II, defied the US government's orders to forcibly remove and mass incarcerate all people of Japanese ancestry, launching a 50-year journey from college to courtroom and eventually to a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Lisa Rothe is again directing.

The play was awarded three Theatre Bay Area Awards for its run in San Francisco, including Outstanding Principal Performance, as well as garnering a Drama Desk Nomination in New York City for Outstanding Solo Performance when it debuted in 2012.

On television, de la Fuente plays Chief Inspector Kido on Amazon's "The Man in the High Castle"; Dr. Johann Pryce on Netflix's "Hemlock Grove"; and President Datu Andrada on CBS' "Madam Secretary." He played TARU Tech Ruben Morales for 10 seasons on "Law & Order: SVU."
