Whiffle ball tournament coming to Camp Russell

Aspiring whiffle ball players will have a chance to show their skills at Sunday's first annual For The Kids Whiffle Ball Tournament at Camp Russell in Richmond.

Adults play this Sunday, while youth teams will play the following Sunday. The schedule is tentative and can change based on the weather.

The tournament will be played on the mini-Fenway Park replica field donated by Berkshire Bank in 2013.

The price for an adult team to register is $100. High school and middle school teams are $75. Elementary school teams (3rd-5th grade) pay $50.

All the proceeds go toward the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires.

Each team will have six players. The tournament is a double elimination format.

Camp counselors Keiland Cross and Bubba White came up with the idea for a Whiffle Ball Tournament as a way to give kids a positive activity to do over the summer.

"The Boys & Girls club has done so much for me," Cross said. "I was the type of kid that was at The Club every day, so this is our way to give back. We're hoping to raise money to help kids attend camp and use the money to help the basketball program."
