Local faith organizations will observe the COVID-19 National Day of Mourning and Lament on Monday, June 1.

The bells of St. John's Episcopal Church will toll at noon, and the bells of First Congregational Church will toll at 5 p.m.

From 5 to 5:30 p.m., a line of representatives from different faith institutions in the area will stand witness along the north side of Main Street from the Congregational Church to Thompson Memorial Chapel.

Standing silently, 10 feet apart and wearing masks, the interfaith "witnesses" will bear signs acknowledging a collective sense of mourning, lament and pain at the unprecedented loss of life the nation has experienced in such a short time.
