Under the sea of rain-spattered umbrellas many tears were shed at the 24th annual observance of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, in New York's Times Square. Perhaps half or more of the 300 persons who attended the commemoration bore the tattooed marks of Nazi concentration camps. The ceremony was in observance of the uprising of Jews in Warsaw against the Nazis, starting April 19, 1943. Some 60,000 died before the resistance ended with the liquidation of the ghetto 42 days later. The observance was held, May 6, 1967. (AP Photo)
